This set coordinates with the “Slip into Something Sweet!” project in the Summer 2021 issue of Classic Sewing magazine.

There are a total of 23 designs in this set—15 neckline designs and 8 motif-only designs. The neckline designs include a scalloped cutwork edge. Each neckline design is either sized for a “baby” or for a “girl,” as distinguished in the design file names. The baby neckline designs are sized to fit a baby 9 to 18 months; they will fit over a head up to 20.5″ in circumference. The girl neckline designs should fit a girl 5 to 12 years old, or even possibly a teenager; they will fit over a head up to 24″ in circumference.

Most of the motif designs will fit in the 4×4 or smaller hoop. The neckline designs require a 5×7, 6×10, and 8×8 hoop.

The baby neckline front designs are 3.80″ wide and range from between 3.28″ and 4.71″ long. The baby neckline back design (which includes buttonholes) is 5.01″ wide by 6.46″ long.  The girl neckline front designs are 7.03″ wide and range from between 4.88″ and 6.72″ long. The girl neckline back design is 6.54″ wide by 3.87″ long.

The dip in each neckline (which doesn’t include the fancy motifs below the neckline) is 2.75″ for the baby necklines and 4.5″ for the girl necklines—as measured from the shoulder seam at the neck edge to the lowest point in the scoop of the neckline.

This design set also comes with a PDF pattern for a baby slip. (NOTICE: If the baby slip pattern was not included with your designs, please re-download the Pretty Petticoats zip file from your account – it has been updated!) Instructions to complete the slip using the baby neckline designs are included. The same general instructions may be followed when using the girl neckline designs with a pattern of your own choosing—any girl’s slip, dress, or blouse pattern with a jewel neckline should do nicely. Just make sure your pattern will accommodate the width of the neckline designs.*

*The width and length of the neckline can be shortened slightly if you place your blouse/dress pattern so that part of the neckline embroidery is cut off at the shoulders. However, if you decide to do this, be aware that it will also reduce the circumference of the neck opening… so you must be sure that cutting off part of the neckline embroidery will not prevent the neck opening from fitting over the wearer’s head!

Fabrics that are 100% cotton are recommended for these designs. The neckline designs work best with lightweight fabrics such as batiste, voile, handkerchief linen, lawn and organdy. Some sturdier fabrics—such as baby cord, dimity, twill, dobby weave, and seersucker—will also work for the neckline designs. The motif designs, on the other hand, will stitch out lovely on pretty much any weight of fabric! When using the neckline designs, you will also need a wash-away self-adhesive stabilizer such as THIS ONE.

Note! The two plain scalloped neckline designs can be used with other embroidery designs from your stash! The floral embroideries on the green striped dress are from the Wildflower Friends set. The scalloped edge pockets on the green striped dress, on the blue dress, and on the yellow romper were made from Petite Scalloped Pocket designs.
